Coffee Hour: Stay on Zoom AFTER the service. We’ll break into small randomized groups for about 10 minutes, then the groups will be juggled for another 10 minute period. Stay as long as you like to meet newcomers, and people that you might not otherwise have met … check-in on one another’s well-being … and reflect on the theme of today’s service.

Here We have Gathered

Here we have gathered, gathered side by side;
circle of kinship, come and step inside!
May all who seek here find a kindly word;
may all who speak here feel they have been heard.
Sing now together this, our hearts’ own song.

Here we have gathered, called to celebrate
days of our lifetime, matters small and great:
we of all ages, women, children, men,
infants and sages, sharing what we can.
Sing now together this, our hearts’ own song.

Life has its battles, sorrows, and regret:
but in the shadows, let us not forget:
we who now gather know each other’s pain;
kindness can heal us: as we give, we gain.
Sing now in friendship this, our hearts’ own song.

Our BUF Covenant

Love is the spirit of this fellowship, and service gives it life.
Celebrating our diversity, and joined by a quest for truth,
we work for peace, and honor all creation. This is our covenant.

Building a New Way

We are building a new way.
We are building a new way.
We are building a new way,
feeling stronger ev’ry day,
We are building a new way.

We are working to be free.
We are working to be free.
We are working to be free,
hate and greed and jealousy.
We are working to be free.

We can feed our every need.
We can feed our ev’ry need.
We can feed our ev’ry need,
Start with love, that is the seed.
We can feed our every need.

Peace and freedom is our cry.
Peace and freedom is our cry.
Peace and freedom is our cry,
Without these this world will die.
Peace and freedom is our cry.

The Special Collection recipient for February is Lydia Place. The collection will be held on February 14th when you can learn more about their mission to break the cycle of homelessness and promote independence for current and future generations. Its Transitional Housing Program consists of the Gladstone House which is the home for women and children who have nowhere else to go. The facility was started in 1989 by a group of women of the Church Women United. These “founding mothers” of Lydia Place included two women from BUF. Support from BUF has been a strong force for this program.

Widening the Circle Study Group Genia and cohorts (TBA) are launching an 11-session study of the report of the UUA Commission on Institutional Change. This report, known as Widening the Circle, assesses where the UUA is regarding diversity and anti-racism, along with recommendations for concrete action. It is full of personal stories, historical perspectives and surprising data, prompting deep reflection about our beliefs as individuals and as a religious institution. This is rich material guaranteed to engage, enlighten and inspire. If you are interested in learning more, and/or want to be included in the doodle poll for setting a regular meeting time, please contact Genia at genia@buf.org.
